New kitchen supplied and installed by Studio Designs, Lastra Pumice/Oak Light/Pergamon Gloss kitchen units with Platon crystal texture worktop

My first visit to Studio Designs was on a weekend last summer and purely by chance when I happened to be in the area and noticed the showroom sign. My intention was just to pop in to see the range and style of kitchens; from that first visit and meeting Ken who provided a wealth of information (not just about kitchens!) we knew that the Mereway range of kitchens was for us.

Ian and I then spent some time in the showroom over a couple of visits to decide the look that we wanted and Ian Gill’s visit to plan out our kitchen , which wasn’t straight forward, was a real help to bringing the whole design and functionality together. Nigel also visited our home to do the survey to check the finer details making sure the whole design worked; subsequent alterations later on were met with great customer service ensuring we were happy with our decisions with such a costly outlay.

The installation took place in January and with such a tricky area and older property to work in we were expecting a lengthy period for the installation. Colin and Clint were the main installers (working with the plasterers and Mick the electrician) and miraculously everything was achieved within the week – actually 4 days as the plastering job meant nothing else could happen on day 2. The professionalism and workmanship of the team were excellent and as customers we were always consulted on any decisions that had to be made along the way. The transformation of the kitchen space was amazing and created a much better use and flow through the area even when several people are in it– this had been quite problematic with our old kitchen which we had inherited when we moved to our home on 2013.

Once the installation had been completed we followed on with the flooring (we have chosen porcelain wood style plank tiles) and then Colin & Clint returned to finish the installation with the plinths – this gave the kitchen a superb finish and we are thrilled with how everything looks.

A few months on we have been living with our new kitchen and we can honestly say there isn’t anything we would change; the quality and look of the cupboards is contemporary and stylish and the Neff appliances add that top of the range finish. We love using the new ovens and ceramic hob in our peninsular unit which now faces out to our garden and view to the sea – a key aspect of the new design.

In terms of some of the details we love, we are really pleased with the lastra oak light doors that we added to the peninsular unit as these tie in so well with the dining area. We also love the wrap over handles which add to the contemporary streamlined design. One of our last decisions was to add a bespoke dresser style cupboard to balance the run of units which included a tall integrated fridge freezer unit at the other end, we are so glad that we added this item. Although I lost the ‘argument’ on the quartz worktops I have been truly surprised with the Duropal Platon surfaces and upstands which are as near to a stone look as you could get; we even went along with Ian Gill’s suggestion of using this as a splash back which ties the surface and wall cupboards together and didn’t require any of the usual deliberations over tile choices. And finally the dimmable lighting within the glass bottomed wall cupboards added that special ambient and functional touch.

The investment in a kitchen is always one that has to be taken seriously and never rushed; we are so grateful to the team at Studio Designs who made the dream of our kitchen a reality. Any questions and ‘snags’ that we have had have been followed up by Richard promptly, so we cannot fault the customer service. Quality always comes at a price but our investment was so worth it and has added value to our everyday lives and undoubtedly to the overall value of our home.

On behalf of us both our sincere thanks
